Andaman Bike Rental : Most Tourists Ask: “Scooty or Cab in Andaman?” — As a Local Born Islander, Here’s the Real Answer

When tourists search for Andaman bike rental, the first doubt they usually have this, So here’s a very common scene in Andaman…

Every season many tourists — especially couples — come without any package and prefer exploring on their own. And trust me, no problem at all! I totally love that spirit.

Most of them first ask me: “Bhaiya, can we take a scooty on rent and roam around easily?”

And my answer is always quick and simple:

  •  In Havelock and Neil — 100% YES, go for scooty.
  •  In Port Blair — please take a cab, not scooty.

Now let me explain exactly why –

Why Scooty in Havelock & Neil Is the BEST!

Andaman Bike Rental

Havelock and Neil are super small, super scenic, super peaceful.
Havelock literally has two main roads — one straight from Beach No. 1 till 5, 6 and Kalapathar… and another straight to Radhanagar Beach. That’s it.
No confusion. No traffic. No “left-right-where-am-I??” moments.

And the scenery?
Full greenery, coconut trees, plantations, fresh oxygen straight from God’s private filter. Perfect for couples. Perfect for freedom. Perfect for vibes.

Neil Island?
Haha, Neil is as small as a cup bowl only.
In my teenage days (2009–2012), I used to rent a bicycle for ₹10 only and ride the entire island end-to-end in 40–50 minutes.
Yes, FULL ISLAND COVERED in that time.

So imagine now with a scooty — you’ll feel like you own the island.

But Why Not Scooty in Port Blair?

Now please don’t think I say this because:

“Arre he’s a travel agent, he must be having a cab! That’s why he tells scooty no!”

NOOOOOOOO!
Let me be honest — till now I don’t even own a cab
Since 2017 I’m in tourism, got plenty of tourists, still didn’t buy a cab. Some personal reasons are there (don’t ask, emotional damage).

So my suggestion is not business-based, it’s based on reality:

rental cabs in port blair

1. Port Blair roads are confusing

Ups, downs, shortcuts, interconnecting lanes…
For you it might look small, but for a new visitor it’s like a mini maze.

Every day I see couples stopping, opening Google Maps, turning the phone round-and-round, then asking some uncle on the roadside,
“Uncle, yeh Cellular Jail ka road kidhar??”

2. Road conditions = Nightmares

Right now roads are under repair almost everywhere.
Especially in the main city areas.
If you take a scooty, be ready for:

SUN + SAND + SUFFER combo treatment

3. Baratang Trip = SCOOTY NOT ALLOWED

If you’re planning for Baratang (Limestone Caves), that area is restricted and two-wheelers are not allowed.

So cab is the only option.

4. IMPORTANT: Ferry Jetty Drops in Port Blair = Cab Is Much Better

This is one of the main reasons I push couples to consider a cab in Port Blair.

In Havelock & Neil

You can easily take a scooty to the jetty.
The area is small and simple.
Scooty rentals are right at the jetty, so many renters allow you to park the scooty there when you depart and pick it up when you return.

Everything is convenient.

But in Port Blair? Massive difference.

  • The Phoenix Bay Jetty / Haddo Wharf is much farther compared to Havelock & Neil jetties.

  • With luggage, early morning or evening timings, it becomes stressful.

  • Most scooty rentals in Port Blair don’t allow drop-off at jetty. They ask you to return the scooty the night before.

  • Then you need to separately arrange a cab for the early morning ferry drop.

  • When you return from Neil/Havelock, you again have to walk out to the main road with luggage and hire an auto to reach your hotel.

This becomes unnecessary tension.

With a cab

You just sit → reach the jetty → board the ferry → come back → cab is waiting outside → smoothly go to your hotel. Easy and stress-free.
