Explore Andaman and Nicobar Islands in India: A Complete Travel Guide 2025

Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India, a breathtaking group of 570 islands, is nestled in the Bay of Bengal. Renowned for its serene beaches, stunning coral reefs, and lush green landscapes, this destination is a paradise for both leisure seekers and adventure enthusiasts. In this guide, discover the beauty of 48 Andaman tourist places that make Andaman and Nicobar tourism unforgettable.

Overview of Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India are great for those looking for peaceful and untouched natural beauty. Only 36 of the 570 islands are inhabited, making it an excellent comfort for those wishing to get away from the rush and bustle of city life. It’s important to note that while tourism is open in the Andaman Islands, the Nicobar Islands remain closed due to their tribal restricted area status.

How to reach Andaman Nicobar Island (Indians & Foreign Nationals)

To begin your journey of the Andaman Nicobar Island, you should first go to Sri Vijaya Purma (Port Blair), the capital city. It is the only entry point to the archipelago, and all travelers must arrive here.

The Andaman Nicobar Island can only be reached in two ways: by flight or by sea.

Reaching Port Blair Air Port by Flight

The most convenient and time-saving way to reach the Andaman Islands are by Flight. There are numerous flights operating from major Indian cities to Port Blair, catering to both passengers and cargo transportation. You get direct flight facility from Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad to Port Blair.

Flight schedules change from time to time, so we recommend that you collect all of this information from airline websites. The approximate distance of 1300 kilometers from mainland India to the islands can be covered in a non-stop flight within a maximum of 2.5 hours. However, currently, there are no evening flights available. The first flight of the day arrives at Port Blair around 7 AM and the last flight leaves around 3 PM.

The Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ) in Port Blair is the sole commercial airport in the Andaman Islands. Air travel is the most practical and hassle-free method to go to this faraway place, thus we highly advise it. Please note that the international flights are not operated yet but soon it will start, foreign travelers must first arrive in India and then take a domestic flight to the Andaman Islands. Major Airlines like Spice Jet, Air India, GoAir, Vistara provide their full service in Port Blair

Reaching Andaman and Nicobar Islands by Ship

Apart from airlines, you can also come to Andaman and Nicobar Islands by ship. Ships are available for those seeking a different experience or planning a longer vacation. However, it’s important to consider the journey’s duration and potential weather conditions that may arise during the sea voyage.

You get ship service from Chennai, Kolkata and Vizag only  The sailing frequency varies, with Kolkata usually having one or two sailings per month, while Chennai and Vizag each have only one sailing per month. It takes 3 to 5 days to reach Andaman and Nicobar Islands by Ship.

Contrary to popular belief, the vessels that sail to Andamans are not luxury cruises but rather passenger and cargo ships. While we usually recommend air travel for its time-saving and convenience benefits, ship journeys can provide a unique experience for those on a longer vacation.

Right from deciding the itinerary till the final drop off at the airport Mr. Ajay from Blue Andaman Tour was very cooperative and assistive. Suggested a great itinerary and he’s very knowledgable of the locations. Everything was as per itinerary. Each cab details and travel plan were shared on WhatsApp a day before which was convenient for us to start our day. Hotels were Better than what we hoped for. They were quite good and comfortable. Vehicles provided during internal transfers were of good quality and drivers were very friendly and helpful. Gave us some great suggestions, be it for shopping, food etc..The only bad thing was we could not visit Elephant beach due to adverse weather. But without letting us get disappointed Mr. Ajay has offered us a Complimentary photoshoot at Kalapathar Beach.
